I promised pics of the finished gown, so here they are. The only change (as far as I know) to be made is the brooch - I'll be buying one from ebay within the next couple days.

It's shown here worn over the chemise, stays, bum roll, and both the petticoats I've made recently. It feels so weird to put this dress and the stays, which have been so long ( Read more... )

I don't have too many pics for right now, since I didn't have a chance to put everything on tonight, but I'm done! The 17th c gown is finished (minus the hem, which will come just before I wear it this summer), the petticoat is done, and I even finished off another pair of crocheted mitts today.

The muslin swag is stitched onto the neckline of the bodice, and I bound the front, but I need to pick up more of the swarovski findings I used for the front of the bodice, to put every 6" around the top of the neckline. And I'm hoping to find a brooch that goes really well to use for the center front of the neckline.

I know I haven't updated in a few days, but it's been super crazy with tech week for my show. Anyway, I was off today, so I (thought) I finished up the chemise. The neckline and sleeve edges are knife pleated, with the neckline simply turned under and sewn, and the sleeves ending in ruched cuffs. I made the majority of my chemise for my 17th c gown tonight. I'm nicknaming it my Pettigrew chemise, since I did everything but the pleats/gathers of the neckline and sleeves all while watching Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (one of my all-time favorite movies). I want to make some mitts for 18th c stuff, so I'm taking old yarn and testing out ideas for patterns. This is test #1. The pattern is basically an alternating single v double crochet, with a few baubles and a couple double/chain rows thrown in. They were made flat, then stitched up the sides.

So clearly, the gown does not at all fit my non-squishable, short-waisted dress form, but here's its current state. The skirt is attached. I still need to bind the front bottom of the bodice, and the skirt needs to be hemmed. A ton. It's at least a foot too long. I also still need to attach the ribbons to the edges of the front of the skirt, so I ( Read more... )

I put in the three hooks and eyes, and the swarovski elements this evening, so the bodice is basically done.
